Abstract: Digital translation tools such as DeepL, Google Translate or ChatGPT now make it possible to receive texts whose language you do not speak. This seems problematic in a scientific context because the translations cannot be verified, but it also represents a great opportunity because texts that previously remained closed
due to the language barrier can now be integrated into one’s own studies.

The article discusses the opportunities and risks of using digitally created translations at universities using the example of Latin texts in history.
